2024 Outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar


At the time Dr. Covington received this award she was a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow in the Center for Digital Humanities and Africana Studies.

Dr. Covington has since moved on to be the Director of the Ethnic Studies Leadership Academy in Iowa City, an educational leadership program for Black youth to learn advocacy through incorporating digital humanities, social sciences and the arts. 

Dr. Covington serves on the board of the National Women's Studies Association, Black Lives Matter at School, National Urban League Young Professionals-Fund Development Committee amongst a host of other grassroots organizations. 

As a youth development professional and subject matter expert in racial inequities, diversity in film and social justice, Dr. Covington serves as a youth advocate and curriculum developer with youth of color, provides professional development on best practices for educators, coaches, media makers and community members to support the development of underrepresented youth in pre-school through college settings in California, Pennsylvania, Iowa, New Jersey, New York and Washington, D.C.
