A presidential installation brings the university and our community together to celebrate the next steps in the life of the institution. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community stakeholders are all welcome to attend and take part in time-honored academic traditions such as the procession of delegates, the presentation of the emblems of office and the gathering of university leaders past and present. Speakers from the state, the country, and the university will express their goodwill for the institution, creating a moment for heightened visibility across the national higher education community, focusing on the new direction of the institution. Finally, the ceremony creates a space for the new president to address the entire university and share his vision for the institution moving forward.
Installations are typically scheduled several months after the new president assumes office. This allows the new president to focus on important university initiatives, ceremonial preparations to be made, and invited guests to make travel arrangements to attend from across the country.
The Installation Ceremony is open to the public to attend as guests. Higher education delegates, U of A faculty members, staff, students, alumni and administrators are invited to participate in the ceremony procession. Regalia is required to process. Members of the U of A community and beyond are also invited to join President Garimella for a campus-wide reception immediately following the Installation Ceremony. Refreshments will be served.
